Recently was announced in the Netherlands that plastic throw-away cups and plastic packaging for dishes will be banned from 2024. This is one of the regulations resulting from the European Single Used Plastics Guidelines, directed to reduce the impact of plastic throw away products on the environment. In France they already banned plastic packaging for fruit and vegetables.
As our industry knows plastic packaging does have several advantages such as the hygiene and durablity of packed products, plastic packaging is re-usable, low in weight and high in strength. By using plastic packaging no other resources such as paper, glass or cotton are needed. Overall plastic packaging still is the best for the environment. Who causes the pollution is not the plastic industry but the human beings.
